In our latest "Giving Back" project, we have funded and mentored a group of women to create a resort wear collection to sell to local tourists in Galle, south of Sri Lanka.
Over the past year I have spent endless hours coaching and mentoring every aspect of this project to show these underprivileged women how to build a business from the ground up. We are beyond proud of them as they approach the final stages of the project, finally seeing the fruits of their hard work.
The women have gained many new skills including how to create a commercially viable new garment collection from scratch, which has been a huge learning curve for our beneficiaries. Initial stages of sourcing fabric, understanding the market, designing, pattern making, fitting, then to final touches of hand embroidery and completion, creating marketing materials, all of these have given them a much needed boost and confidence to achieve bigger and better opportunities in life.
With Sahana's vision to give back to the community and empower women, creating a continuous sustainable income source and educating rural women was our aim for a brighter future in this project and we have achieved that and much more.
You can donate to support the Women’s Empowerment at the Foundation of Goodness, a marvellous charity organisation that truly makes a massive difference in Sri Lanka helping the disadvantaged. I have been working with the foundation on various projects and sponsoring rural women to educate themselves for the past 28 years and have witnessed first hand how lives are transformed.
