Plate for Goodness - Something Greater than Food

Plate for Goodness - Something Greater than Food

 A Gathering of Purpose

In the soft glow of late summer, we came together - twenty women, each bringing with her a smile, a spirit of openness, curiosity, and connection. What unfolded was something far more meaningful than a beautiful feast. It was a celebration of culture, community, and shared purpose.

Together, we cooked a beautiful spread of authentic Sri Lankan dishes, guided by recipes lovingly passed down through Inosha’s family. The kitchen was filled with the aroma of spices, layers of flavour telling stories of tradition, heritage, and home.

We shared refreshing beverages, styled tables with soft summer flowers, and created a space that felt both intimate and expansive for all. A coming together of like-minded women simply enjoying each other’s company.

Yet, “Plate for Goodness” was always about something greater.

For over 30 years, Inosha has worked alongside the Foundation of Goodness, a Not-For-Profit (NFP) organisation changing lives in the south of Sri Lanka - supporting underprivileged rural women through its Women’s Enterprise Initiatives. These programs provide access to education and six-month sponsored training, equipping women with practical skills to build livelihoods, start small businesses, and move toward financial independence.

Through our gathering, we were able to raise funds to sponsor 27 women into these programs in January. From dressmaking and cookery, to curtain making, food preservation, and soft toy creation - these skills become tools of transformation. They open doors. They shift futures. They allow women to redefine the paths that society may have once set for them.

There is something profoundly moving in knowing that, while we gathered, thousands of miles away, our collective effort would ripple into the lives of other women across the world.

We feel deeply grateful for the lives we live here in Australia and even more so for the opportunity to extend a hand in sisterhood. There is a quiet power in women supporting women, in shared intention, in lifting one another up.

Inosha continues this journey beyond the event. Mentoring these women through regular online meeting sessions, encouraging them to grow in confidence, to challenge cultural boundaries, and to rise. To not only transform their own lives, but to become examples for their daughters and generations to come.

This was more than a meal - more than a moment.

It was a reminder of what is possible when women come together, with heart, with purpose, and with the belief that change begins in small, meaningful ways.
